Each level strengthens the others. Personal agency gives you something to share. Shared practice gives you support and accountability. Civic commitment gives you purpose beyond self-preservation.
Start anywhere. But don’t stop at one level.
Level 1: Personal Agency Practices
Agency is the antidote to anxiety. When you’re actively choosing how to engage with AI—rather than having it happen to you—the psychological experience transforms. Same technology, different relationship.
Daily Agency Inventory
Most people couldn’t tell you how many AI-influenced decisions they made yesterday. The interactions blur together into a vague sense of “I used AI.” This vagueness erodes agency. What you can’t see, you can’t steer.
The Choose/Accept Distinction

- When to use: Situations where this works well
- When not to use: Limitations and failure modes

The flip side: a collection of AI wins—times when AI delivered exceptional value. Same structure:
- What happened?
- What was the prompt or context?
- What made this a success?
- Is it reproducible?
- How might we apply this approach elsewhere?
The success gallery spreads effective practices and combats the cynicism that can develop when people only notice failures.
Curation Responsibility
Assign rotating responsibility for maintaining these collections. Someone should be asking each week: “Any new failures or successes worth adding?” Making it someone’s job ensures it actually happens.
Weekly AI Learning Circles
Structured peer learning accelerates everyone’s development. A weekly learning circle provides accountability, diverse perspectives, and dedicated time for reflection.
Simple Format (30-45 minutes)
- Check-in (5 min): One word on how AI use felt this week
- Shares (15-20 min): 2-3 people share something they tried, learned, or struggled with
- Group problem-solve (10-15 min): Take one challenge and brainstorm approaches together

Offer regular, low-pressure time for colleagues to ask questions and get help. This is one of the highest-leverage things an AI-comfortable person can do.
The Format
Block recurring time—even 30 minutes weekly—when anyone can drop in with AI questions. Publicize it. Make clear that no question is too basic.
What people actually need:
- Help with specific tasks (“How would I use AI for X?”)
- Permission to experiment (“Is it okay to try this?”)
- Troubleshooting (“It’s not working, what am I doing wrong?”)
- Reassurance (“Am I behind? Is this normal?”)

The Thriving Triad offers a practical path to that shift:
- Personal agency proves you can steer, not just react
- Shared practice proves you’re not alone
- Civic commitment proves your adaptation has purpose beyond yourself
You don’t have to do all of this at once. But do something at each level. The combination is what makes it work.
The future of AI in your organization isn’t something that will happen to you. It’s something you’re building, whether you realize it or not. You might as well build it on purpose.
